Improving hiragana and katakana readings

Assume that you have study the hiragana and katakana chart fully, you might think that you are able to read it already. You are right to say that, but how fast can you read hiragana and katakana words? You probably still have to think a little before saying the word out. Being able to read a word quickly helps you get used to speaking the word and to quickly sound fluent in the language. So here are 2 methods that should help you to speak faster.

Method 1
I’m sure almost every Japanese learner has his or her favorite Japanese artist. So what he or she can do is to go to a Japanese karaoke. On screen you will see the Japanese subtitles for the song chosen. Then you just have to try to read the hiragana and katakana while trying to sing. This will greatly improve your ability to speak each character faster because of the speed of the song that requires you to pace the song accordingly. Although you have no idea what each word means for now, its alright. Once your Japanese vocabulary improve, you get even better at sounding and reading the words while you sing. If you are uncomfortable about singing. See method 2

Method 2

This method is much easier and slower pace than method 1 as it does not requires you to sing to the pace of the words. Go to any Japanese supermarket or any place selling Japanese products. On the products, there will be full of Japanese hiragana and katakana and kanji. What you can do is try to read only the hiragana and katakana, don’t bother about the kanji. Just skip them. The more you try to read, the better your photographic memory becomes and you will be able to say the hiragana or katakana words out quickly.
